The ABB AC800M 3BSE053240R1 PM891 is a high – performance processor unit designed for demanding industrial automation and control applications. It is a key component of the AC 800M control system, which is widely used in various industries such as power generation, oil and gas, chemical processing, and manufacturing.

This processor unit features a monolithic design that integrates power supply, CPU – boards, and unit termination. It is powered by a Freescale PowerQUICC III MPC8641 microprocessor running at 450 MHz, providing the computational power needed to handle complex control algorithms and large – scale data processing. With 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of flash memory, it can efficiently store and process data, ensuring smooth operation of the control system.

The PM891 offers excellent communication capabilities. It is equipped with two Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbit/s) that support communication protocols such as MMS (Manufacturing Message Service) and IAC (Inter – Application Communication), enabling seamless integration with other devices and systems in the industrial network. Additionally, it has serial ports (RS – 232/485) for connecting to legacy devices or sensors that use serial communication.

One of the significant advantages of the PM891 is its support for CPU redundancy. In a redundant configuration, two PM891 units can work together to ensure high availability of the control system. If one unit fails, the other can immediately take over the control functions, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operation of the industrial process.

The unit also has a communication expansion bus (CEX – bus) that can be used to connect additional communication interface units, further expanding its communication capabilities. The optical module bus can connect up to seven clusters of S800 I/O units, with each cluster accommodating up to 12 units, providing extensive I/O options for different control requirements.
