Product Description:
The FOXBORO FEM100 (part number P0973CA) is a fieldbus expansion module used within the FOXBORO I/A Series Distributed Control System (DCS). Its primary function is to provide additional fieldbus segments to an FCP270 (Field Control Processor 270), thereby increasing the number of 200 Series (or equivalent) Fieldbus Modules (FBMs) that the FCP270 can support. Each of the four expanded fieldbuses provided by the FEM100 can accommodate up to thirty-two 200 Series FBMs.
The FEM100 module facilitates 2 Mbps HDLC (High-Level Data Link Control) module fieldbus communication between the I/A Series FCP270 and the 200 Series FBMs. It is designed for installation on a DIN rail mounted Modular Two-Slot or Four-Slot Expansion Baseplate. A pair of FEM100 modules can be configured for redundancy to ensure high subsystem availability. In a redundant setup, the FCP270 communicates across both A and B buses. If one FEM100 module fails, the FCP270 automatically switches all traffic to the bus connected to the functioning module. Failed modules can be replaced without interrupting input or output communications on the other module.
The FEM100 module features a compact and rugged design with an extruded aluminum exterior for physical protection of its electronics. It can be removed and replaced from an Expansion Baseplate without requiring a power shutdown. LEDs on the front of the module indicate fieldbus communication activity and the module’s status.
