Main Features and Advantages
Self-Checking Electronic Shutter for Fail-Safe Operation: The Fireye 45RM4-1001 features an advanced electronic shutter that eliminates the reliability issues of older electromechanical shutter designs. During normal operation, the Fireye 45RM4-1001 provides flame signal pulses to the amplifier when the shutter is open. During the shutter closed interval, the PbS cell is disabled, and pulses should cease. The associated Fireye amplifier expects to see no pulses during the closed interval and will shut down (de-energize the flame relay) if pulses continue, ensuring that any scanner malfunction triggers a safe system shutdown.
16-Position Frequency Selector for Superior Flame Discrimination: The Fireye 45RM4-1001 is equipped with a 16-position rotary switch that allows precise tuning to the optimal flame flicker frequency for virtually any fuel type. Low-frequency radiation is typical of pulverized coal and low-NOx flames, while mid-range frequencies characterize natural gas combustion. This frequency-tuning capability enables the Fireye 45RM4-1001 to reliably distinguish the target burner flame from adjacent burner flames, background refractory radiation, and other sources of interference in complex multi-burner environments.
Background Gain Control and 10-LED Signal Indication: The Fireye 45RM4-1001 includes a Background Gain Control (BGC) switch that inversely adjusts signal gain based on flame brightness. When the monitored flame is extinguished but background brightness increases (due to hot refractory or adjacent flames), BGC automatically decreases gain, reducing the false signal and enabling the amplifier to reliably drop out the flame relay. The 10-LED bar graph provides a linear visual indication of flame signal strength, with each LED representing approximately 75 output pulses per second, significantly simplifying scanner sighting and alignment during commissioning.
24VDC Operation for Noise Immunity and Easy Integration: The Fireye 45RM4-1001 operates on 24VDC, which effectively eliminates the 50/60Hz and harmonic interference (100Hz, 120Hz) typical of AC-powered flame scanners. This makes the Fireye 45RM4-1001 exceptionally reliable in environments with high electrical noise. The quick-disconnect connector and color-coded 6-wire cable (P/N 59-470) simplify wiring and replacement, with BLACK for +24VDC, RED for self-check, WHITE for common, GREEN for flame signal, and BLUE and YELLOW unused.
