Main Features and Advantages
PROFIBUS DP-V1 native—no gateway tax. The “PB” suffix on the Kollmorgen 04S-M60-8-PB is the differentiator: the drive presents as a standard DP-V1 slave at up to 12 Mbps and consumes a GSD file from Kollmorgen’s library, meaning it drops straight onto a Siemens S7-300/400/1500 PROFIBUS rack without Anybus or Hilscher gateway hardware. For plants running mixed-age lines where the master PLC is locked to PROFIBUS for the next 5–8 years, the Kollmorgen 04S-M60-8-PB preserves the bus investment while still getting S700 current-loop performance—a key reason this SKU stays active on spare BOMs even as Kollmorgen pushes the AKD and now AKD2G platforms upstream.
Eight-feedback universal port. Most S700 variants lock to a specific feedback family (e.g., EnDat-only or Hiperface-only) via ordered suffix, but the “8” in Kollmorgen 04S-M60-8-PB signals the multi-protocol feedback port that auto-detects EnDat 2.2, BiSS-C, Hiperface DSL, SinCos 1 Vpp, resolver, SFD, and others. 30/60 A current envelope in the narrow S700 form factor. At ~70 mm width, the Kollmorgen 04S-M60-8-PB delivers what normally requires 105–120 mm width in competitor drives of the same current class. That 30 A continuous / 60 A peak lets it serve AKM 4–7 frame motors in the 3–11 kW band—typical of printing-cylinder axes, converting unwind/rewind, packaging rotary turrets, and mid-size CNC servo spindles. The 4–16 kHz PWM adjustability is more than a spec-sheet nicety: dropping to 4 kHz on a large-inductance AKM winding reduces switching loss and heat; pushing to 12–16 kHz on a low-inductance winding tightens current-loop bandwidth for tighter following error. The exposes this tunably, not as a fixed factory setting.
Embedded S700 motion & safety. Beyond the current loop, the carries automatic inertia identification, anti-resonance filtering (notch + low-pass), gain scheduling by velocity/position region, and electronic cam table execution (firmware permitting) so the drive can offload the PLC on registration and phase-locked tasks. The STO SIL3 / PL e circuit is hardwired through dedicated terminals—no software stack required to achieve safe state, which matters on presses and flying-shear retrofits where the risk assessment mandates SIL3 but the legacy PLC doesn’t have PROFIsafe wired through. Front-panel USB for local laptop commissioning plus RJ45 Ethernet service port for remote KAS WorkBench access mean the supports both truck-roll and remote-support workflows without add-on interface cards.
