woodward 8200-1302

The Woodward 8200 – 1302 is a digital governor turbine control module renowned for its high – performance and reliability in regulating steam turbines. It serves as a crucial component in industrial applications, power generation plants, marine propulsion systems, and more, where precise control over turbine speed and output power is essential.

This module is part of the 505D series of digital governors. It features an integrated graphical front – panel Human – Machine Interface (HMI), which provides operators with an intuitive and user – friendly interface. The large – screen display allows for easy navigation and clear visualization of various turbine parameters, such as speed, load, and temperature. Multilingual support, including Chinese, further enhances its usability across different regions.

Equipped with intelligent and adaptive control algorithms, the 8200 – 1302 optimizes turbine performance and stability. It offers features like next – generation advanced load rejection handling, ensuring smooth operation during sudden load changes. There are also three critical – speed avoidance bands to prevent the turbine from operating at speeds that could cause mechanical resonance and damage. The reverse – rotation sensing and alarm function adds an extra layer of safety. Additionally, the Optitune adaptive PID technology fine – tunes the turbine’s performance, and the acceleration PID limits overshoots during plant startups for a more stable and efficient start – up process.

The module has comprehensive input and output capabilities. It has analog inputs (e.g., 4 – 20 mA channels with loop power) for receiving signals from sensors, digital inputs for discrete signals, and two 4 – 20 mA control outputs and eight form – C relay contact outputs for controlling actuators and other devices. It also includes 10 external alarm inputs and 10 external DI trip inputs, along with trip indication for trip and alarm events, complete with associated RTC timestamps for accurate event logging.
In terms of communication, it offers improved connectivity options. Ethernet communication enables seamless integration with plant Distributed Control Systems (DCS), service tools, and remote – view operator control panels. It also supports CANopen actuator connectivity for Woodward Varistroke actuators and DSLC – II power management networks. This makes it easy to incorporate into larger industrial control networks and enables remote monitoring and control.

The 8200 – 1302 has a built – in “turbine simulator” for off – line training and advanced testing before implementing system changes. It also provides high – speed data logs that monitor turbine operation and stress, including run – time and first – out trip information. Vibration monitoring (with the 8928 – 7482 sensor kit) is available for enhanced protection and control.
